Artificial intelligence, data, cybersecurity, IoT, robotics… Technology has become a central focus of business strategies. In Lyon, these key challenges are supported by a particularly dynamic ecosystem of companies, startups, educational institutions, research laboratories and public organisations. This thriving environment is also driving the growth of major professional events across the region.
A Thriving Innovation Ecosystem
Located at the heart of France’s second-largest economic region, Lyon has established itself as a leading hub for digital technology and innovation.
The French Tech Saint-Étienne Lyon ecosystem now brings together more than 1,500 startups, representing nearly 20,000 jobs. A strong network of businesses, academic institutions and public organisations has developed around these companies.
Several industry clusters play a key role in supporting and strengthening this ecosystem. Digital League, the largest digital community in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, brings together more than 430 members representing over 18,000 employees, including businesses, educational institutions, research laboratories and investors. Meanwhile, Minalogic, a competitiveness cluster dedicated to digital transformation, connects 450 members around technology and innovation.
These networks encourage connections and collaboration between startups, major corporations, researchers and education providers. They also support the development of strategic sectors such as artificial intelligence, data, cybersecurity, IoT and robotics.
In this context, professional events play an essential role. They provide opportunities to showcase innovations, explore real-world applications, connect communities and foster new collaborations.
SIDO: Supporting Growth in Lyon
This momentum is particularly evident in SIDO, which held its 12th edition at the Lyon Convention Centre on 15 and 16 September.
Dedicated to digital transformation in business, the event brought together 300 exhibitors and nearly 8,000 trade visitors this year. IoT, artificial intelligence, robotics, digital twins and cybersecurity took centre stage during two days of networking, discussions and knowledge sharing.Since its early editions, SIDO has experienced significant growth, reflecting both the increasing importance of these technologies for businesses and the event’s continued success over the years.
Having expanded steadily at the Lyon Convention Centre, the exhibition is now preparing to take another major step forward at Eurexpo Lyon. Larger exhibition spaces will provide new opportunities for growth, innovative event formats and an even greater reach. This next chapter will offer increased capacity and greater flexibility in terms of exhibition layouts and event formats. With the continued support of the Lyon Events teams, SIDO will be able to pursue its development and ambitions. The move from the Lyon Convention Centre to Eurexpo Lyon also highlights the complementary strengths of Lyon Events' venues.
In September 2027, SIDO will therefore move to Eurexpo Lyon, where it will be held alongside 3D PRINT Congress & Exhibition, Lyon Cyber Expo and INNOROBO. The aim is to create a major gathering dedicated to emerging technologies and industrial transformation.
A Momentum That Continues to Grow
SIDO is part of a broader events programme that reinforces Lyon’s growing position as a destination for IT and technology-focused events. Cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data and digital technologies applied to industry will continue to bring together businesses, experts and decision-makers at dedicated events over the coming months.
This momentum is reflected in events such as Global Industrie at Eurexpo Lyon, as well as the arrival of the Salon de la Data et de l’IA at the Lyon Convention Centre. Dedicated to data and artificial intelligence professionals, this event places particular emphasis on real-world experiences, practical applications and major industry developments. It brings together decision-makers, experts and users through conferences, workshops and networking opportunities.
Together, these events demonstrate Lyon’s ability to welcome a wide range of complementary event formats and professional communities focused on major digital transformations.
Through these events, Lyon continues to strengthen its position as a destination that brings professional communities together around technological change. This positioning is supported not only by the strength of its innovation ecosystem, but also by venues capable of supporting events at every stage of their development, from their first edition to large-scale expansion.
